(bigleaguepolitics) – Has the American regime gone pro-China? Donald Trump sure seems to think so — the former president recently slammed the Biden administration, saying it would be a “terrible mistake” if they attempted to fight inflation by lifting tariffs on goods out of China. Trump also emphatically stated that such a move would make the United States look “weak.”

“Believe it or not, it is looking more and more like the United States is getting ready to remove the tariffs on China. This would be a terrible mistake,” Trump said in a statement via Truth Social on July 5.

“Doing this would be the greatest gift that China could ever receive,” he continued. “Taking these tariffs off would be a clear signal that the United States is weak, ineffective, and doing business as usual.”

According to reporting by The Epoch Times, Trump began levying tariffs against China after a U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) investigation found that the Communist Party-controlled regime was engaging in illegal trade practices as well as intellectual property theft.

Beijing retaliated with its own sanctions on American goods, launching the two nations into a trade war.

Both countries signed a trade deal in January 2020 which requires China buy $200 billion more in U.S. goods and services during 2020 and 2021, as compared to levels drawn from 2017.

Unfortunately for the United States, the Chinese Communist Party is not holding up its end of the bargain. Reports by the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) indicate that China has purchased only 57 percent of the U.S. exports it had promised to buy. To make matters worse, PIIE’s senior fellow Chad Bown stated that the Chinese government “bought none of the additional $200 billion of exports Trump’s deal had promised.”

A pro-US manufacturing group called Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) took to social media in order to urge White House occupant Joe Biden to “keep the tariffs in place.”

“So… revoking tariffs won’t do anything about inflation,” AAM wrote. “But… doing so will hand the CCP a big win and undermine America’s manufacturers and factory workers.”

Trump praised the accomplishments of his own tariffs previously levied against China.

“These tariffs have brought many billions of dollars to our country, and made affected businesses, such as steel, viable again in the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Our farmers alone got $28 billion as a gift from me, that came directly out of the tariffs because of the way they were abused by China.”

The former president concluded with his criticisms against U.S. lawmakers who hope to remove American tariffs against China.

“Certain senators are fighting hard to get this done, even saying such ridiculous things as it ’causes inflation,’” wrote Trump, without naming anybody in particular. “Those senators should be questioned as to their real motives!”
